Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) is a storage networking protocol that encapsulates Fibre Channel (FC) frames within IP packets, enabling the transport of FC traffic over IP networks. Fibre Channel (FC) is a high-speed data transfer protocol providing in-order, lossless delivery of raw block data. Please refer to the current edition of the "Internet Official Protocol Standards" (STD 1) for the standardization state and status. In modern IT infrastructure, one of the core decisions for engineers is choosing between Fibre Channel (FC) and IP-based storage solutions like iSCSI or NAS. Both have distinct advantages, technical requirements, and use cases. FCIP and iSCSI are complementary solutions for enabling company wide access to storage.
