How to use the Telecom SC cold joint

A Telecom SC cold joint allows quick, tool-free fiber or cable splicing by inserting the prepared cable into a pre-assembled connector or cold-shrink tube, ensuring reliable connectivity and protection.Step-by-Step Installation for Fiber Optic SC Cold JointsPrepare the Tools and Materials Gather the SC cold joint, fiber strippers, fiber cleaver, cleaning tools, and protective boots if included .Prepare the Fiber or Cable Strip the outer sheath of the fiber or cable carefully using a fiber stripper. Clean the exposed fiber thoroughly to remove dust or debris. Cut the bare fiber to the recommended length using a fiber cleaver .Insert the Fiber into the Cold Joint Slowly insert the prepared fiber into the mechanical splicing mechanism of the SC cold joint. The internal V-shaped groove and clamping element will hold the fiber securely. Ensure the fiber is fully seated before removing any wedge clips .Lock the Fiber Press the gland or locking mechanism to secure the fiber in place. This ensures proper alignment and prevents movement that could degrade signal quality .Install the Protective Boot Slide the connector boot over the joint to provide mechanical protection and environmental sealing. For cold-shrink power or telecom joints, the EPDM rubber tubing will contract around the cable, creating a tight, corrosion-resistant seal without heat .PrecautionsAvoid Contamination: Keep the joint away from dust and dirt, as contamination can reduce performance .Handle Fiber Carefully: Insert fibers slowly to prevent breakage or poor transmission .Use Proper Cutting Tools: Automatic fiber cleavers provide the best results for clean, precise cuts .No Heat Required: Cold-shrink joints are safe to install in environments with combustible gases since no flame or hot work is needed .ApplicationsFiber Optic Networks: SC cold joints are ideal for FTTH installations, indoor/outdoor splicing, and quick field terminations .Power Cable Connections: Cold-shrink joints are used for 1-core shielded power cables (15–35 kV), providing robust insulation and stress control for tape, wire, or flat-strap shielded cables . By following these steps and precautions, Telecom SC cold joints can be installed quickly and reliably, ensuring high-quality signal transmission and long-term durability.
